Engineering day-maths week 2016

Engineering day was a huge success and we had a lot of fun.

The children in years 5 and 6 were lucky enough to be taught by a civil engineer for the day, Mrs George, who helped the children understand the different types of engineering and what jobs an engineer might do to help us.

We started the day by creating bridges made from blocks before looking at designs and shapes that were 'strong'. We used this knowledge to create and make our own bridges out of lollipop sticks, the criteria for our bridges is that they must span 30cm and hold up to 6kg of weight. We have not had an opportunity to test them yet, we will post images to let you know who the winning team was once the competition is over.

These images show the jobs that civil engineers might do.
